Eco-$mart was founded in 1993, in Sarasota, Florida, inspired by the creation of the Florida House Learning Center, a green living demonstration project jointly developed by Sarasota County Cooperative Extension service and the nonprofit Florida House Institute for Sustainable Development (flhouse.org), to which Eco-$mart has donated many materials. Eco-$mart’s mission is to bridge the gap between understanding and applying sustainable development principals.
Eco-$mart provides a number of services to facilitate sustainable living. Eco-$mart is a distribution source for a wide variety of green construction materials, and offers free specification guidance to home owners, building owners, architects, developers and contractors.
Eco-$mart assists its customers in generating free media attention for including Eco-$mart products in their projects. This assistance includes writing and disseminating press releases, coordinating public speaking engagements, and including project overviews on the Eco-$mart website, blog and social media outlets.
