The Innovation Incubation Center-i²c fosters innovative thinking and empowers the business potential of disruptive research at TU Wien.

In addition to a strong international position amongst well-known, top ranked European universities, we offer an entrepreneurial ecosystem: We provide valuable education on intra-& entrepreneurship for students, a StartAcademy for scientists and the TUW i²ncubator for breeding & commercializing promising ideas including infrastructure (our co-working space "FounderSpace"), funding and mentoring support. The offer is complemented with events open to the public featuring high-profile inter-/national guest speakers, an annual conference exhibiting innovative research with high business potential and a great international network of entrepreneurs, investors, industry and research partners, experts, alumni etc.

The Founder Space is a coworking space at TU Wien which is offered to selected StartAcademy- and/or Diploma Supplement-Participants to provide them with the needed infrastructure to continue working on their projects and/or founding their startups/spinoffs.

Diploma Supplement on Innovation

The Diploma Supplement on Innovation offers a premium, hands-on education on intra-& entrepreneurship exclusively for TU students. As the Curriculum is limited to only 20 participants per year, the students are selected in an application process. It comprises 30 ECTS and spans three semesters. The Diploma Supplement is lectured by international, practical experienced experts, mentors and guest speakers and is taught in English. It concludes with presenting the innovative projects to a jury of potential investors, innovation scouts and experts.

StartAcademy

Workshop

The StartAcademy is a 3-day-bootcamp for TU scientists to investigate the business potential of their R&D projects/PhD topics. During the workshop, participants get individual mentoring and practical advice from inter-/national trainers, founders and investors and work together on their individual business models. The participation is limited to a maximum of 10 projects, which are selected in an application process. At the end of the StartAcademy, the scientists get the chance to pitch their projects in front of a jury and compete for special prizes.

TUW i²ncubator

The TUW i²ncubator is a program for breeding & commercializing promising ideas of selected StartAcademy- and/or Diploma Supplement-Participants. The Program includes a coworking space at TU (the Founder Space), workshops, mentoring/EIR (Entrepreneur in Residence) sessions, access to an inter-/national network and funding.

It includes founders, investors (business angels, venture capitalists), partners in public funding, industry and science, mentors, trainers, experts, lecturers, alumni and many more. It enables TU students or scientists of a i²c program to connect to the right people and to improve their professional contacts.

Event

The Founder & Investor Talk Series and the Distinguished Speaker Series are public events, where high-profile guest speakers (founders, investors, experts etc.) talk about their experiences and share their lessons learned. The talks are followed by interactive Q&A sessions and the possibility for networking.

The i²c organizes public Demo Days/ pitch challenges, where TU students or scientists of a i²c program get the chance to present their project/startup to the public and a jury of potential investors, innovation scouts and experts.

The Networking Friday is an annual public networking conference offering an exhibition of innovative research with high business potential of TU Wien, impulse talks, panel discussions and a pitch challenge including an award ceremony. As it concludes the StartAcademy, the participants get the chance to present their projects to the guests and a multi-member jury of potential investors to compete for cash and non-cash prizes amounting to a total of € 50,000.
