Business Intelligence Analyst

About the role:

This is a great opportunity for someone interested in developing a career as a Business Intelligence Analyst.  In this role, you will be engaging with users across the business, supporting their reporting and analysis needs. Your main objective will be to drive the adoption of business intelligence tools, and support a shift towards data driven decision-making.

This is a fixed-term position currently offered on a 10 month contract.

With training and on-the-job coaching from more experienced colleagues, you will become familiar with a variety of information sources at the Press, and the tools (mainly SAP Business Objects, possibly Qlik and Power BI) that we use to present the information. Our business intelligence landscape is evolving and you will help present the information in intuitive and interactive ways.

Our Business Intelligence team is part of the Technology department and handles end user support, training and technical issues, as well as development of new reports and applications. We use agile practices as far as possible, in order to deliver value to our users early and frequently, while working at a sustainable pace.

About you:

You will need to demonstrate our six behavioural values; collaborative, decisive, empowering, innovative, responsible and responsive.

This position is a unique learning opportunity for candidates with work experience in any operational, administrative or professional field, who have an active interest in and wishes to gain skills in data management and analytics. While we do not expect you to be a Business Intelligence expert (yet) you need to demonstrate that you are unafraid of trying new tools, ways of working, or new methodologies, and that you have the aptitude to learn quickly. You will be expected to share your skills and experience with the rest of the team, and in return you will be supported in your own development.

Much of your workload will be user facing, and you will need to display a “can do” service attitude. We expect you to be able to organise your own work and be highly aware of how you spend your time effectively. In return you will have a lot of flexibility and trust to make your own decisions with a minimum of administrative hurdles.

A main challenge will be to understand the individual needs of a user and relate this to common solutions for a wider group of users; for this you will need good listening skills and the ability to analyse the information you discover. Collaborating with colleagues in all different parts of the organisation, you need to communicate clearly and with integrity to aid understanding at all times.

About us:

Our global not-for-profit organisation is committed to the advancement of knowledge worldwide through our extensive publishing programme. You will be joining a diverse and collaborative workforce and you will be supported in your career ambitions to achieve your potential.

Help us achieve our mission, and you will have a career that is not only hugely satisfying but brings with it great benefits and a stimulating, supportive and flexible working environment.

Why us?

A great central Cambridge location, our office is only a ten minute walk from the train station and guided busway. Benefits include a staff incentive scheme, flexible working, free life assurance and a contributory pension scheme, 28 days annual leave, subsidised restaurant and café, free on-site gym and sports facilities, and season ticket travel loans.

Interviews will take place w/c 23rd July.

To apply, please complete the online application by 18th July.
