About The Role

The Art & Graphics Lead ​position is an exciting growth opportunity where you​ ​will​ regionally manage our​ Art & Graphics ​product, process​ ​and​ ​people. Within​ ​this​ ​regional leadership​ ​position​ ​you​ ​will​ ​harness​, ​help​ ​to​ ​grow, and ensure the success of ​the Art & Graphics ​​team by working directly with the Head of Art & Graphics and the global Art & Graphics team in NYC. The​ ​position​ ​requires​ ​a​ ​proven​ ​track​ ​record​ ​of​ ​exceptional​ ​design​ ​thinking,​ ​an​ ​understanding​ ​of our​ ​brand​ ​at​ ​its​ ​deepest​ ​level,​ ​and​ ​an​ ​aptitude​ ​for​ ​positive​ ​and​ ​clear​ ​communication​ ​within​ ​your team.​ ​Additionally,​ ​respect​ ​for​ ​and​ ​discretion​ ​with​ ​sensitive​ ​information​ ​are​ ​requirements​ ​for​ ​team members​ ​taking​ ​on​ ​this​ ​role. Due to the breadth and intensity of this role, you may not always work on projects as often as you do now.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and support the WeWork culture and sense of community among all Art & Graphics staff

  • Communicate regularly with the Head of Art & Graphics and the Art & Graphics Group to provide progress updates and coordinate initiatives

  • Establish goals and metrics to track success of initiatives

  • Collaborate and communicate daily with the other regional functional leads and all of your regional Art & Graphics teammates

  • Build strong and positive ​relationships​ ​within​ ​your industry locally,​ ​leveraging​ ​expertise​ ​and​ ​creating​ ​excitement​ ​within​ ​the profession​ ​about​ ​its future​​ ​from​ ​a​ ​wide-lens​ ​perspective​

  • Onboarding

    • Establish an environment that excitedly welcomes new team members and helps to grow current ones

    • Teach or assign responsibility for onboarding courses provided globally for new hires

    • Regionalize onboarding process as appropriate

  • Recruiting

    • Together with the Head of Art & Graphics - evaluate, propose, establish, and maintain strategic relationships within the industry and professional organizations to improve visibility to job opportunities and continue to elevate the quality of recruits

    • Attend local recruiting events

  • Interviewing

    • Understand the needs of the Art & Graphics team and align applicant searches and evaluations with the expectations of the Head of Art & Graphics

    • Evaluate and select applicants to interview based on a review of portfolios

    • Interview and provide feedback on applicants to the corporate recruiter and Head of Art & Graphics

  • Professional and Team Development

    • Act as both a manager and a mentor to regional discipline team members by providing guidance, feedback, and assistance on art and design methodology

    • Create a strong, positive, and optimistic culture within the regional Art & Graphics team through organizing and leading events, providing mentorship and learning opportunities

    • Assist the global Art & Graphics team in the development of regional programs to support professional growth both internal and external to WeWork

      • A Mentorship Program

      • External growth classes and conferences (e.g. Project Management, Leadership, Screen-printing, Sign-painting, etc.)

    • Organize, manage, and run 1:1 discussions with Art & Graphics staff to plan and track their growth

    • Provide ongoing training and support to the Art & Graphics staff on regionalized processes and product standards

  • Regionalization with the support of and in coordination with the global Art & Graphics team

    • Direct regionalization of process for the function by strategizing, testing, and documenting modified global processes

    • Assist and manage regionalization of product standards

    • Troubleshoot short term solutions for process and product fixes, while pushing forward a long term solution and agenda

  • Dual reporting to the Head of Art & Graphics/regional Design Director

Basic Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of art and design principles

  • 5+ years experience in professional graphic design field

  • Strong interest in interior design, art, and installation design

  • Clearly demonstrate leadership characteristics

  • Very proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)

  • Comfortable translating design into physical installation work via hand-painting, spray paint, stenciling, wheatpasting, etc.

  • Able to reference past WeWork projects and the overall brand aesthetic while creating work for new WeWork spaces

  • Previous managing experience preferred

  • A positive and optimistic influence within the Art & Graphics discipline and beyond by always carrying yourself in a professional manner

  • Honesty, respect, and confidentiality are essential and are taken seriously

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work on both short term and long term solutions simultaneously

  • Must be very organized and exhibit excellent time management skills

  • Clear communicator and excellent presenter with oral, written, and graphic representation skills

  • Ambitious outside-of-the-box thinker willing to reach beyond their comfort zone

  • Reliable, focused, and detail oriented

  • Excellent decision-making skills and a highly resourceful problem solver

  • Self-directed with a high level of initiative and a "can do" attitude, but open to feedback and a strong desire to learn

  • Excellent people skills with an ability to build consensus

  • Proficient in documentation and representation tools: all things Google and Adobe

  • Fluent in English
