R&D Developer for an AI project

We're hiring a developer to work on an innovative AI system: Using machine learning for an NLP task

Salary: £22-£34k

We are an Edinburgh-based software development team, working to make the world a better place. No, really. We raise money for good causes, and put the individual back in control. This job is in collaboration with the University of Dundee.

This is an exciting chance to do cutting-edge machine learning work, working with a top team. We're making a bot assistant that uses NLP technology to understand and help with maths questions. Looking at the use of examples in Maths-Overflow answers -- Can this be automated?

You'll be working with a world-class team: Dr Alison Pease of the University of Dundee, a world leading research centre for computing, and the agile team at Good-Loop. You'll be contributing to software development and to research -- expect to do and learn a lot.
We're looking for a smart developer, who works well in a team and is passionate about their work.

Essentials

  • Programming experience - this can be in any language, provided it shows your capability.
  • Good communication skills
  • Able to work well in a team
  • Independent enough to manage your own work
  • Must have example code that you can send us -- preferably from a hobby project.

Desirable Skills

We don't expect you to have experience in all of the following! Please let us know which of the following that you have:

  • Java
  • Javascript
  • Machine learning, especially relating to NLP, and/or theorem proving and automated reasoning software.
  • Knowledge of discourse or argumentation.
  • Mathematical logic
  • A-level maths
  • ElasticSearch
  • Experience working as part of an agile development team
  • UX / User-centred design
  • Graphic design
  • Writing skills, especially academic paper writing

About You

You should be aged whatever with a passionate attitude towards your work. The job involves a high level of responsibility -- working within a small talented team. The right candidate will have the chance to shape the job, and will be at the heart of an exciting company.
