Role Description
The Project Technical Architect produces end-to-end High Level Designs, combining services, technologies and products from multiple IT areas including desktop and server technologies; storage solutions; virtualisation, applications; network components; infrastructure tooling and ITIL-based processes.
Working on won business either from a new logo wins or incremental sales on an existing account, the Project TA is part of the transformation and transition team alongside the Project Manager and Tower Subject Matter Experts (SME).
The Project TA also provides governance and assurance of SME produced detailed design documentation, validating alignment to the HLD whilst adhering to Atos and account technology standards and policies.
During an assignment a Project TA is expect to consistently demonstrate the following key skills within the project assignment context;
- Technical focus and drive –be the architectural focal point the project design
- Vision and innovation – identify and champion solution improvements managed through project change
- Commercial awareness - understand the impact of design changes in the context of the end to end solution
- Quality control and assurance - governance and alignment of design to build
- Accountability and responsibility
- High quality documentation and communication skills.
Role Variants
1. Senior Project Technical Architect
- An experienced Technical Architect with additional responsibilities (outlined in Senior Project TA section).
2. Pre-Sales Technical Architect
- An Architect on assignment in the role of a Solution Architect on either incremental or new business sales. See Solution Architect description.
- Provides technical input into the solution component design
- Brings delivery and implementation experience and perspectives to the solution team
3. Network Technical Architect
- A (Senior) Project Architect with a Network Specialism
Responsibilities
- Working within the established Engineering and Architecture frameworks to produce client solutions and designs
- Ensure solution designs conform to the Managed Services Technical Strategy and that any exceptions are agreed with, and signed off by, the Chief Technology Office or the affected Delivery Tower
- Collaborate with customer architecture teams to ensure alignment of requirements and solutions and to facilitate design sign-off and approvals
- Understand the business requirements and contracted services and relate these to solution requirements
- Understand the solution risks associated with each aspect of the service and/or project, and mitigate these in the design where possible
- Work with the Tower SMEs to ensure solutions meet requirements, are supportable and to the approved standards
- Ensure design documentation is coherent end to end across the design lifecycle and that systems have been built to design (TAEF adherence)
- Ensure the correct ownership is applied to technical troubleshooting tasks and guidance and support is provided to SMEs when appropriate
- Regular reporting to Lead Architect, Project Manager, Service Delivery Manager as appropriate.
- Provide advice and guidance to customers on the technical solutions including the realised business benefits.
Additional Responsibilities
- Leading a team of Project TAs delivering multiple HLDs as part of an overall programme of work
- Ensuring that individual High Level Designs produced by the project work streams are aligned to the overarching Architecture baseline
- Provides leadership, guidance and support to the end to end design workstream team including TAs and SMEs where required
- Acts as the AAAs delegated authority for the workstream providing design governance and assurance.
